INVITED INTERNATIONAL SPEAKER @ NOTTINGHAM TRENT UNIVERSITY (NTU) UK
28th February 2018 marked a day where I had my very first International Public Lecture as Young Academic of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) representing Malaysia globally at Nottingham Trent University (NTU), Nottingham, United Kingdom. The event which also known as International Scientific Debates was organized by NTU in celebrating their Global Week. It was held from 26th February to 2nd March 2018. Thank you very much to NTU for the kind invitation. Much appreciated. It was one of the biggest event at NTU, where they invited a number of speakers from different continents of the world and unite us at NTU. Every one of us gave a public lecture for an hour and the lectures were open to discussion at anytime all along the talk. During the visit to NTU, I was also given the opportunity to widen up my networking with the staffs coming from various faculties at NTU. Besides, I also had a chance to give a lecture to the Undergraduate Biomedical Engineering students after the meet and greet session. We had an amazing time during the lecture and some fun as we played a couple of online educational games at the end of the session. I always believe that learning should be FUN and so I tried to introduce the "EDUTAINMENT" element. Although that was my first and last time giving them lectures, I can feel the bonding with them. The key is we as educator have to understand the interest of our students, try to engage them, create a positive environment and throw them a little surprise.
In my humble opinion as Young Academic, I strongly suggest to all my fellow Young Academics out there, try to step out from your comfort zone and give at least one Public Lecture to the students and academics from other university, where you have never been there before. It will give you an incredible experience I promise, enhances your knowledge and skill, make networking and it's a golden opportunities to build up your NAME for the outsider the recognize you! Isn't that cool? No doubt I felt so much pressure bringing the name of me myself, my team, my school, USM and MALAYSIA. It was huge loads put on my shoulders but, thinking positively I take it as a challenge for myself and best recognition for me as Young Academic. Thanks a heap to my two inspiring mentors, Prof Ahmad Fauzi Mohd Noor and Prof Abd Karim Alias for helping me in preparing myself or the talk. I also owe a thank you to my beloved family, friends and students. Without all of you, this seem like an impossible dream for me to achieve successfully. Alhamdulillah.
