COGNITIVIST

  • Always asking the students to reflect on the reflection of their experiences during studios session & also normal lecture especially under my coordinator subjects.
  • Helping students to find solutions to the existing problems & encouraging them to solve based on precedent studies.
  • Helping students to explore and understand how the ideas develop, connected and progress as crits session progresses in every week of crit or class.
  • Sometimes during class session, I will randomly call up by their names from the CLA name list and asked the question of today’s subject. Only then I will proceed by leading them to the answers they seek & benefit for their studios and lifelong learning.
  • Always starting the lessons by hooking them a topic of the day or sometimes activate their mind by discussing a certain issue of that weekly subjects.
  • Begin the lessons by reviewing questions or quizzes
  • Sometimes I use this teach the fundamental of design concepts especially design related class or projects.

CONNECTIVIST

  • connectivism lets the students learn to navigate and create networks among the peers in the studio & also lecturer class.
  • Normally students are invited to join ‘padlet’ group where I will ask questions and students will review their peers of other members work
  • From my teaching perspective, I allowed the students to collaborate and discuss among their cohort peers, allowing different perspectives or viewpoints especially in decision making and problem solving in site analysis/synthesis assignments.
  • Students will break into groups and will present their findings using PowerPoint in the ‘padlet’ given & sometimes other group members will comment their progress.

MY REFLECTION ON EFFECTIVE SUPERVISION

  • Supervisors should have a good relationship with supervisees.
  • We need to provide emotional support and empathy from time to time.
  • In the school of HBP majority of students comes from a professional background and therefore we need to treat them as such.
  • Though a little bit push and urgency is needed as not everything can be achieved when situated in a comfort zone. PhD in architecture is almost similar to the real thing as we always meet our deadline mark without extension of time.
  • I always remind my students to at least write and read 1 page daily to keep the momentum going.
  • Supervisors need to keep track of their supervisees and not wait for them to come to us.
