The course introduces the field of Operations Research. It starts with the art of mathematical modelling of a simplified practical real world problem. Various classes of problem will be modelled and formulated, including transportation, assignment and project scheduling. Students will learn how best to formulate a problem and solve using several variations of the Simplex Method. Students will also learn to perform sensitivity analysis and interpret the results in terms of the real world. This is a practical course in optimisation, which could be applied in many industrial and organisational settings.
