Self-Reflection Part 1

This is my self-reflection on what I have learned throughout my days in USM and my journey as a teacher to be.

The picture above that I created using Mentimeter was the best way that I can do, to sum up, my learning journey in USM.

These three years in USM are full of new experiences that provide me with new knowledge and new skills, that will be very useful not only for me as a teacher but generally really beneficial in my entire life. Through every hardship and struggle in completing each of the assignment requirements, I learned how to be independent, a good team player, how to manage stress through coping strategies.  self-discipline, resilience & perseverance. Each benchmark & expectation from our lecturer made me realizes how crucial to have higher-order thinking skills, how vital to be resourceful, how important to stay diligent and positive. Through every extra curriculum activities such as in Unit Uniform, Clubs, program, and events, I learn how to be adaptable in every unfamiliar situation, and how to gain self-confidence.  From friendship in USM, I learned how to build a positive relationship, how to be compassionate, kind, courtesy, and be patient. In general, USM is preparing their student like me to be prepared to face our challenging world. School of Education had trained me to become a great teacher for this challenging society. I know now, that it is not easy to become a great teacher that can give inspiration to the student. But with all the skills I had learned in USM, and will continuously learning, I have to be optimistic, creative, imaginative, working hard, and instill my passion for teaching.

Self-Reflection Part 2

This is my reflection on my journey in exploring technology to be used to support teaching and learning.

Even before my journey in USM, I already know that integrating technology in our teaching strategies gives so many benefits to the students compare if we used chalk and talk traditional teaching methods. Yet, to be honest, I rarely exploring the tools or platforms that we can use for our blending learning class. Even for my other assignment or during my microteaching task, I only use basic and simple technology that is so common which is through Microsoft PowerPoint.

I am so blessed when the School of Education are trying their best to equip their students with knowledge about technology in education from a few subjects such as PGT 201E Instructional Technology Practices and PGT 436E Information and Communication Technology in Education. Because PGT201E is in the lower level compare to PGT436E, I only learned basic tools such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Powerpoint, Google Classroom, Google Form, Kahoot and also creating a website using Wix.

Only when I took this PGT436E class, my paradigm about educational technology tools shifts 100%. This subject made me realizes that we need to be competent in using educational technology tools not because we want to be technology experts, but because it help us to create a platform to share our knowledge and to have an interactive learning session for all of our students. In this subject, I learned how to create more interesting learning material using infographics like Piktochart and Canva or mind-mapping like using Ayoa and Coggle. I learned how to create more interactive digital content using Genially, Screencast-O-Matic, Podcast using Anchor.Fm, and Tes Teach CMS.

There is so much more for me to explore on my own.

There is so much more for me to learn how to be a creative 21st-century teacher.
