STU231 Introduction to Psychology

Course Synopsis and Objectives

The objective of this course is to introduce the field of psychology. It will discuss major theories in psychology. It will also focus on current research findings within the field. Among the major topics are biology and psychology, memory, cognitive process, intelligence, emotion and major psychological disorders. Emphasis will be made on how major theories in general psychology can be applied in one’s daily life and career. Students taking this course will be able to understand major theories in psychology and will be able to see their applications in their daily lives and future career. This course will also prepare students for advance courses in psychology.

 

Learning Outcomes

  1. Describe main theories and recent psychological research.
  2. Select main psychological theories that are relevant to explain scientifically issues and problems.
  3. Identify the main theories and the relationship with personal daily life experiences.

STU242 Social Psychology

Course Synopsis and Objectives

The objective of this course is to discuss major theories and recent research findings in social psychology. The topics consists of social cognition, social perception, group dynamics, aggression, group behavior, social conflict, prejudice and attraction theory. Applications of social psychology in daily and working lives will be stressed upon.
