This course introduces the nature of rigorous university level formal mathematics which emphasizes on definition, formal mathematical statements, and formal rudiments of proofs through elementary mathematical objects such as sets, functions, real numbers, rational numbers, integers, and, polynomials. The standard proving techniques that will be introduced range from direct proofs, proof by contraposition, division into cases, proof of universal and existential statements, proof by contradiction, and finally mathematical induction.
