COURSE SYNOPSIS:
This course introduces students to aspect of laboratory safety, as well as management and maintenance of laboratory equipment. Students will also be trained to use laboratory equipment such as micropipette, pH meter, balances, microscope, spectrophotometer, chromatography and other common laboratory analytical equipment. This course will also emphasize on the method to handle and dispose dangerous chemicals, use of laboratory plasticware and glassware, sterilization and disinfection, as well as basic laboratory techniques. This course is conducted through lectures, tutorials, practical and discussions. The students are evaluated through tests, final examination, practical reports and assignment.

a) Course work - 60%
- Assignment 1X (10%)
- Test 3X (20%)
- Practical report 5X (20%)
- Practical test 1X (10%)
b) Final exam - 40 %

This course is divided into 19 chapters and 5 laboratory practical sessions. At the end of each chapter/practical session, students should be able to achieve lecture/practical outcomes as listed in Teaching and Learning (T&L) document as attached below:

The lecture for GTB106 is every Sunday 11am-1pm and Wednesday 12-1pm. The laboratory practical session is Monday 2-5pm (Week 3,5,7,10 and 11). Detail timetable for GTB106 is attached below:
