The rationale for the inclusion of the course in the program
This is the core course for those undertaking the Master of Business Administration
(General, International Business and Sustainability Development). This course is to give students an
understanding of the theories behind operations management, which we always experience in the
world around us.
The study of operations management is divided into three main sections for the purposes of clarity and
manageability though most of the contents in the section are applied concurrently. These three
sections are: (i) Introduction to Operations; (ii) Designing Operating Systems; and (iii) Tactics
Managing Operations.
This course contains knowledge and skills in operations and service management issues both at the
strategic and tactical levels. It includes the teaching, discussing, and learning of quantitative and
qualitative decision-making for operations and service management with the object of creating a
competitive edge in cost, quality, time, and flexibility. Some of the topics include the framework of
operations strategy, the production of goods and services, quality management, product design,
process selection, forecasting, capacity and layout decisions, location decisions,
productivity, supply chain management, production planning of goods and services,
material management, short-term scheduling and lean management
