THE FIRST PART OF THIS COURSE WILL EXPOSE STUDENTS ON THE CONCEPT OF BIOINORGANIC CHEMISTRY, BASIC COORDINATION CHEMISTRY IN BIOLOGY, TRANSPORT, STORAGE AND HOMEOSTASIS OF METAL IONS, SODIUM AND POTASSIUM-CHANNELS AND PUMPS, ZINC-LEWIS ACID AND GENE REGULATOR, IRON: ESSENTIAL FOR ALMOST ALL LIFE, COPPER WITH DIOXYGEN AND METALS IN MEDICINE AND THE ENVIRONMENT.

THE SECOND PART OF THIS COURSE WILL EXPOSE STUDENTS ON THE CONCEPT AND IMPORTANCE OF ORGANOMETALLIC CHEMISTRY, COMMON LIGANDS IN ORGANOMETALLIC CHEMISTRY, ELECTRON COUNTING, OXIDATION STATE, COORDINATION NUMBER AND GEOMETRY OF ORGANOMETALLIC COMPLEXES, LIGAND SUBSTITUTION, OXIDATIVE ADDITION AND REDUCTIVE ELIMINATION, INSERTION AND ELIMINATION, NUCLEOPHILIC AND ELECTROPHILIC ADDITION AND ABSTRACTION (ELIMINATION), CHARACTERIZATION OF ORGANOMETALLIC COMPOUNDS AND ORGANOMETALLIC CATALYSIS.
