This course will begin with discussion on the foundation of mathematics education research, a brief historical development of mathematics education research, as well as the philosophy and research paradigm mathematics education research. Candidates will be guided to write comprehensive and critical reviews on issues and trends of mathematics education research. The research focus will include teaching and learning of mathematics; curriculum; technology; evaluation; mathematics teacher education as well as international comparative studies on mathematics. Candidates are expected to be able to identify issue and areas in mathematics education that will become the potential title of their research project.
