This course provides students with the necessary knowledge and skills to design a social research project, commission and supervise social research done by others, and evaluate research findings. This course will help students to be familiar with elements that need to be considered in preparing a research design and be able to prepare one. Upon completing the course, students will be able to formulate research questions and objectives, understand the major strategies of social research and the methodological choices that need to be made, understand the role of concepts, theories, hypotheses and models in social research, select appropriate sources of data to answer research questions, understand the major quantitative and qualitative methods of data gathering and analysis, and be familiar with the ethical issues involved in social research.
